Redei, M.D., Ph.D.
Jay
Redei, M.D., Ph.D. has a dual background in medicine
and computer science. His interest and experience have
been centered around the converging lifesciences and
IT industries since 1986. His scientific expertise covers
a number of key technologies in this emerging field
of convergence, including bioinformatics applications
for DNA profiling, neural networks, pattern recognition,
analysis of high-dimensional data, and nanomaterials.
Dr. Redei brings 12 years of domain experience in the
global bio-pharmaceutical industry, where he held positions
in software engineering, IT management and operations.
He has worked on high-profile drug development programs
for clients such as Merck, Pfizer, Eli Lilly & Company,
Hoffmann-La Roche, and Genetics Institute.
More recently, he has been involved in the private equity
sector, as a founding partner of a $100 million German-American
venture fund focusing on early-stage Internet, IT, communications
and bioinformatics opportunities. He has helped launch
a number of ventures in the lifesciences field and serves
in an advisory capacity to several private equity and
biomedical technology firms. Previously, Dr. Redei was
in senior management at PAREXEL International Corporation
(Nasdaq: PRXL), one of the world's largest pharmaceutical
outsourcing providers and also an Assistant Professor
on the faculty of the UCSF School of Medicine.
Dr. Redei received his M.D. degree from the University
of Bonn (Germany), and concurrently completed a Ph.D.
in Applied Neuroinformatics (Magna Cum Laude) at the
same institution. He has authored more than 50 scientific
papers and has received scientific awards from the European
Association of Radiology and from Pfizer Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Redei resides in Silicon Valley, California.
